General Help

The fields can be used to choose the data items to be returned, restrict the number of results to be returned, choose the output format, select the number of results to return, and to reset the fields to their default values. For best results, start with the fewest values and broadest criteria ( for instance "contains" instead of "equals"). If there are too many results, use more values and narrower criteria. Depending on the criteria used, it could take as much as 2 minutes to return the results of the query.

Criteria
One and only one may be chosen per data item and take effect if any entries are made into the "value(s)" column. Comparisons are not case sensitive and the data item need not be selected for display to be used as criteria. The selections are:
Equal (default)
Exactly matches the specified value. Multiple values, separated by a comma, may be entered.
Not Equal
Does not match the specified value. One and only value may be entered.
Equal or Less
Matches the specified value and any values less than that entered. One and only value may be entered.
Equal or More
Matches the specified value and any values more than that entered. One and only value may be entered.
Between
Equal to or greater than and equal to or less than the specified values (two are required).
Starts With
Matches all items that start with this value. One and only value may be entered.
Contains
Matches all items that contain this value. One and only value may be entered.

Value(s)
Dates can be entered in many formats including "YYYY-MM-DD" or "MM/DD/YYYY".
Are not case sensitive.
Can be drop down list boxes or entered values.
Multiple values can be selected in drop down list boxes using the "control" or "shift" keys.
Values in drop down list boxes can be de-selected by click on the value while pressing the "control" key.
If more than one value is entered, separated them with a comma (stuff,more stuff).

Output format
The output can be formatted as HTML (default), text, or spreadsheet.
If the spreadsheet option is selected and MS Excel is identified to your browser, Excel will automatically open with the results of the query. If your browser does not know about Excel, a prompt to save the data will be displayed.

Maximum rows to return
Accepts any numeric value up to 100 and defaults to 10.

Data Item Help


Latest Data Only
They can be more than one record per aircraft over time. This can be as a result of changes in registration status, owners, or even N Number changes.
Select "Yes" (the default) to see only the latest data or "No" to see all data.

N Number
The FAA identification for the aircraft.
If searching for a specific N Number, do not enter the leading "N" for the search value
Always displayed and cannot be deselected.
Output is sorted by N Number, Last Action Date, Aircraft Manufacturer Name, Aircraft Model Name, Serial Number.

Last Action Date
The last time the status of the aircraft changed.
Always displayed and cannot be deselected.
Output is sorted by N Number, Last Action Date, Aircraft Manufacturer Name, Aircraft Model Name, Serial Number.

Aircraft Manufacturer Name
Not coded consistently and can have values that are similar but not identical, such as ROCKWELL INTERNATIONAL CORP and ROCKWELL INTERNATIONAL.
Using the CONTAINS or STARTS WITH criteria might be useful.
Always displayed and cannot be deselected.
Output is sorted by N Number, Last Action Date, Aircraft Manufacturer Name, Aircraft Model Name, Serial Number.

Aircraft Model Name
Not coded consistently.
Using the CONTAINS or STARTS WITH criteria might be useful.
Always displayed and cannot be deselected.
Output is sorted by N Number, Last Action Date, Aircraft Manufacturer Name, Aircraft Model Name, Serial Number.

Serial Number
The complete aircraft serial number assigned to the aircraft by the manufacturer.
Always displayed and cannot be deselected.
Output is sorted by N Number, Last Action Date, Aircraft Manufacturer Name, Aircraft Model Name, Serial Number.

Registrant Name
The first registrant's name which appears on the Application for Registration, FAA Form 8050-1.
This value is usually coded as last name, a space, first name, a space, and middle name.
It can also contain miscellaneous text such as " REGISTRATION PENDING".

State
Use the standard 2 character abbreviation.
Inconsistently coded when country is not USA.

Zip Code
When the country is not USA, the format is the postal code for that country.

Aircraft Weight
CLASS 1 is Up to 12,499 lbs
CLASS 2 is 12,500 - 19,999 lbs
CLASS 3 is 20,000 and over lbs

Cruising Speed
In many instances, has a value of 0.

Approved Operation Codes
Cannot be used as a selection criteria, but can be displayed.

Engine Manufacturer
Not coded consistently and can have values that are similar but not identical, such as BMW ROLLS and ROLL-ROYCE.
Using the CONTAINS or STARTS WITH criteria might be useful.

Engine Model Name
Not coded consistently.
Using the CONTAINS or STARTS WITH criteria might be useful.

Engine Horsepower Thrust
Either the horsepower or thrust.
Not present or 0 for non powered aircraft.

Fuel Consumed
Not consistently present.
